Planning Scheduler

Location: Adbaston, Stafford, ST20 OQJ

Salary: £24,000 - £26,000 subject to skills and experience

Company Overview

Knighton Foods is a UK manufacturer of instant dry powders for the
food & beverage industry; supplying major retailers, co-food manufacturers,
food service customers and brand owners. The company manufactures dry powders
such as custard, skimmed milk powder, instant desserts, coffee creamers and hot
beverages and has an annual turnover in the region of 60 million across 2 UK
based sites. The Knighton site, based in Staffordshire currently has c250
employees and is a 24/5 operation. The site has a number of processing
capabilities and is the only UK operation of its kind to provide a co-packing
facility, with 18 packing lines in total.

The tonnage for the site is circa 20,000 tonnes. There are approx.
180 finished goods SKUs, 216 Raw Ingredients, 515 packaging items, 442
semi-finished ingredients and 90 suppliers. The site has several complex
processes that require an individual that has experience of working within a
FMCG environment.

Job Purpose

To efficiently support in the management and operation of the planning department and all associated
activities at the Knighton site contributing directly to the production of a
range of dry powder products and processes.

To ensure the short, mid-term production schedule is maintained to meet the needs of the customer and
business. Ensuring plans are created to deliver a best in class on time in full
delivery (OTIF).

To work safely, efficiently and effectively within the Supply Chain Department meeting deadlines and targets to
ensure quality products are moved around the site and delivered on time, whilst
following site safety rules, food safety rules, quality management and company

Scope of Role

The Planning Scheduler will help deliver the day to day supply chain function, and
the effective planning of the operational forecast into a production schedule.

This role is designed to deliver best in class customer service to all external and
internal customers. That will be applied to improving planning efficiencies,
reducing stock holding, cleaning and changeovers.

Working closely with the operations and MRP teams to create the most efficient plan
meeting the demands of the customer whilst keeping WIP within the business

Creation of a weekly production schedule and labour requirement forecasting model for both
the Stafford and Knaresborough sites

A proactive approach is required in this role, and improvements and project work will
become part of the “norm” in this role.

The Planning Scheduler will also support the MRP, Warehouse, Operational, Technical
and Finance teams in the evaluation of the short- mid-term plan.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Ensuring compliance with all regulatory (Safety, Health and
Environment) items as they relate to the Knighton facility. Ensuring compliance with all relevant
statutory legislation in respect of inspection, maintenance and repairs, and
adherence to Food Safety standards.

Creation of the weekly production schedule and labour requirement model across both

Work with key stakeholders to proactively manage inventory,
reducing the risks of aged stock.

Support where appropriate any site projects / improvement
programmes, identifying process inefficiencies and driving optimisation to
deliver increased productivity.

Help develop and maintain key departmental systems and tools, e.g.
SAP, training records.

Communicate effectively and confidently to all departments at all

Experience / Skills


· Experience of working in an FMCG environment

· Experience of working as production scheduler / Materials planner

· Proven track record of building successful cross-functional relationships


· Minimum 5 years’ experience working in an FMCG environment

· Minimum 3 years’ experience within a planning role

· Knowledge of SAP B1 / R3 / APO systems
